A short history of the Farsi subtitling language
Farsi is known in English as Persian. It is spoken in Iran (Persia), Afghanistan and Tajikistan. There are around 110 million Farsi speakers in the world and it holds official language status in Afghanistan and Tajikistan. In the United States there are a number of Persian migrants, especially around the area of Los Angeles.
Turkik languages spoken by the people of neighbouring Central Asia, Caucasus and Antolia have also had an influence on the Farsi language.
Persian takes its name from the Capital of the Achaemenid Empire, Persis (Fars or Pars) and therefore the name Persian (Farsi or Parsi).
The Persian language was first used to write poetry in the Eastern Courts and one of the most famous Persian books is The King of Kings. It is a long poem telling of the mythical and historic past of the Persian Empire. It was written by the Farsi poet, Ferdowsi and it is the world’s longest epic poet, written by a single poet.
Persian or Farsi is known as Dari in Afghanistan and in Tajikistan it is known as Tajiki.
