English voiceover in Indian accent for Blink Tower

Mozilla’s video Production Company Blink Tower required an English voice-over with Indian accent to promote their ‘Webmaker’ platform.

As leading multilingual voice-over studio, Matinée were selected to cast and record the voice artist.  We selected Bindu for her gentle and engaging delivery style to fit the animation perfectly.

The client Skyped in to the session to direct Bindu live.  After the recording session, we cleaned and edited the audio and delivered it as a .wav file.  The final animation looks and sounds fantastic.

Origins of English spoken in Indian accent

English in Indian accent voiceover talent agency

India is a vast country. It has 22 official languages and there are hundreds more that aren’t official, but they are spoken by the Indian people.

Hindi is the language spoken by the majority of Indian people, followed by Bengali and then Telugu and Marathi. Many Indian people are bilingual or multilingual and English is a second language for millions of them.

During the 1800s India was ruled by The East India Company, which was run by the English. The English rulers wanted all Indian people to speak English and began to use English in schools, in place of Persian. This went on through the rule of the British Raj until 1947, so that by the time India gained its independence, many Indian people spoke English. Although Hindi was then declared an official language, English continued to be used for official purposes until 1965.

England has a vast Indian migrant population and it is the most common country of birth among those who were born in India, but now reside in the UK.

Many of the Indians who migrated to the UK came from the Punjab region of India. Many Indian men served in the British army from that region and fought for Britain in the first and second World Wars. During the 50s when Britain had labour shortages, they invited the Indians to come and settle in the UK with the promise of jobs. They came to take up the promise of employment and many worked in our airports and on our public transport systems.

Bangladeshi people came to England during the civil war in Bangladesh, to escape from the war. Many of the UK’s small businesses, especially in catering, are owned by Bangladeshi’s. To listen to an Indian person speaking English with an Indian accent, watch this You Tube video between two famous Indian Chefs, Sanjeev Kapoor and Raj Bhatt.
